Generating Income from your Closet!

So I have been actively selling clothing from my daughter's closet on POSHMARK since December.  Although some people might use this as a way for primary income, I have found that it is a nice way to earn a little extra money now and then!

If you are looking for a "get rich quick" option, those don't exist!  For me at least, I want to present myself in the best light  possible, so this is what I do before I list an item for sale online. It is quite time consuming.

1. Machine or hand wash each item.
2. Iron or steam each clothing item.
3.Take a front, back, detail and clothing label photo of each item.
4. Research the app to see if there are any similar items already for sale. Read the descriptions and compare listing prices.
5. Post the items for sale.
6. Re-share the item during theme appropriate parties to reach the maximum amount of potential buyers.

It is kind of exciting to make a sale & ship it off.  I don't mind spending a lot of time on the computer, so for now I will continue to try and sell clothing online this way.

If you think that this is something that you would like to try, sign up using code NKLQC for $5.00 credit!

Holiday Shopping Stress!

This is year seems more stressful than others in regards to shopping. Everywhere you turn you are being bombarded by sales, discounts and pressure to BUY NOW!

I don't know if you are being sucked in. I tried doing a pre-Thanksgiving sale on a household item that seemed like a great price. And guess what, the same vendor marked it down 2 days after it was delivered to me!  So guess what, I bought it again to save $40.00. All the shipping was free, so when the 2nd one comes in, I will take it back to the store with the big bull's eye on it!

Thanksgiving sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday...and my mailbox is full of everyone offering me Cyber Monday prices now, on Sunday!  What is a girl to do?

At some point, I will just stop looking after I get an item that I feel is a pretty good deal. After all, who wants to try returning Christmas gifts during this hectic shopping season anyway?

I hope everyone else is having a less stressful shopping experience.  And remember, if you are shopping online, shop through any portals you belong to, like AAdvantage Shopping or Upromise so that you can earn miles or cash back, use your cash back or points credit card for the purchase, and always, always check RetailmeNot for coupons and discount codes for any vendor!

Are Online Deals Really a Deal?

Are online deals really a deal? This crossed my mind today as I sorted through all the emails bombarding my inbox and tossed them into the trash one by one.

If you are in the market for whatever is being offered, maybe. If you are getting caught up in the moment on a limited time offer, probably not.

It is so important to always read the "fine print" associated with these offers. Therein lie the clues, parameters, blackout dates, exclusions, disclaimers and limits on the offer. Here are some important questions to find out before you hit that "buy now" button.
  • When does the offer expire?
  • Are there blackout dates?
  • How many total are being sold?
  • Are there any hidden costs such as freight to ship, and if so does it make the item un-affordable?
  • Is tax included?
  • Are there handling charges or surcharges?
  • What is the return policy, if any exist at all? Some sites do have refund or replacement policies.
  • How far in advance do you need to book?
Keep in mind that there are also some great discounts and offers to be found in all those junk mail circulars and ValPak coupons that hit your real mailbox! They are usually geared to your neighborhood, so you don't have to travel too far to use them and you are supporting your local economy.

iTunes U

Did you know that you can increase your memory by actively learning, reading and listening? On Apple iTunes U, there are more than 800 universities that have active iTunes U sites. About half of these institutions — including Stanford, Yale, MIT, Oxford, and UC Berkeley — distribute their content publicly on the iTunes Store.

In the Beyond Campus section of iTunes U, students can  access a wealth of content from distinguished entities such as MoMA, the New York Public Library, Public Radio International, and PBS stations.

For institutions that have a larger mission to spread knowledge, there’s no better way to connect with people who are ready to learn than with an iTunes U site. Anyone with iTunes and access to the Internet can benefit from an institution’s wealth of information. I may not be able to get a degree, but what's stopping me from learning and stretching my knowledge of the world? Maybe I will try to learn a new language!
I can't wait to see what free knowledge is available to me!
