Holiday Shopping Stress!

This is year seems more stressful than others in regards to shopping. Everywhere you turn you are being bombarded by sales, discounts and pressure to BUY NOW!

I don't know if you are being sucked in. I tried doing a pre-Thanksgiving sale on a household item that seemed like a great price. And guess what, the same vendor marked it down 2 days after it was delivered to me!  So guess what, I bought it again to save $40.00. All the shipping was free, so when the 2nd one comes in, I will take it back to the store with the big bull's eye on it!

Thanksgiving sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday...and my mailbox is full of everyone offering me Cyber Monday prices now, on Sunday!  What is a girl to do?

At some point, I will just stop looking after I get an item that I feel is a pretty good deal. After all, who wants to try returning Christmas gifts during this hectic shopping season anyway?

I hope everyone else is having a less stressful shopping experience.  And remember, if you are shopping online, shop through any portals you belong to, like AAdvantage Shopping or Upromise so that you can earn miles or cash back, use your cash back or points credit card for the purchase, and always, always check RetailmeNot for coupons and discount codes for any vendor!

Use Target's Cartwheel app to Save $$ Shopping!

Have you heard of, or are you using Target's "Cartwheel" app?  It's really quite wonderful and easy to use! Whether you are a regular or occasional Target shopper, they offer free wifi there, so you can always open the app in store to see what wonderful things they have on sale.

For the best savings, review the "offers" at home across 14 or more different categories. Then you can load up to 15 offers to use by just clicking on them. It will save them to a section called "My Cartwheel" then when you get ready to checkout, you hit "my barcode" hand your phone to the salesperson, they will scan the bar code and walla, instant savings.

Even better, if you have coupons you can bring them and stack on the savings. Target even has their own coupon page online that you can peruse before you shop. I just enter "coupons" into the search bar to get there quickly.

If you have Target's RED card, there is also an additional 5% savings available!  It's so nice to know that there are vendors out there who really want to make you feel like you can be a smart shopper and save money!

Shopping Discount Trick?

I just read this shopping suggestion today, so I will pass it along. It is a tip from Time Magazine's Moneyland column. I am going to give it a try for a higher end store where I need to buy a Christmas present, and I have been unable to find a coupon or discount elsewhere. If it works, I will be so excited!

Some online companies will give you discounts or other incentives if you log into their sight, place items in your cart, then literally "abandon" the cart by not buying anything. Leave them there but don't hit the "buy" button. I can do that!

To get you to come back and finish your purchase, some companies will email you with additional codes. You must already be logged in so that they have your email address for this to work. It may only work once, or they may just send you an email reminding you that you haven't completed your order.  It's definitely worth a try if it isn't something you need right a way!

Outlet Mall Shopping

First off, I am not a very big shopper, but when I do shop I like to make it count. I have heard the pitfalls of outlet shopping, that some of the brands aren't real, or that name brands make clothes specifically for their outlets. But if you make wise choices or have some luck, you can score some nice things. Usually they have last season's stuff, but who cares!

This past weekend we went to Las Vegas. Being thrifty, I am Definitely not a Vegas person. But my husband needed a change of scenery from his hip surgery "stay at home" mode so we drove to Sin City. It's about a 5 hour drive for us and the long weekend was perfect.

The best part about Vegas for me is leaving! Especially because I like to stop at the Tanger Outlet in Barstow. My favorite store is Michael Kors. I always seem to have luck finding at least one item (usually blouses) that are a good price and bring me a lot of compliments. This trip I overdid it, but only because they were having a 50% off the lowest tag price of their winter line. I purchased 4 items valued at $519.00 for $176.46! That's over a 66% savings off of the retail tag. His looks are classic and the clothes are well made. My favorite is a beautiful black wool blend poncho. It's not a style that I would normally wear, but when I tried it on I fell in love.

In researching this outlet online I discovered that they also offer coupons for select stores. Next time I will check it out before I leave. You can also sign up online for the TangerClub, for email notices and specials, web offers and special savings. If you are a huge fan you can follow them on facebook.

Tanger has outlets all across the United States. Check their listing to see if there is one near you. It is definitely worth a visit!

75% off Christmas

Well, there is still a little Christmas out there to be had at 75% off!  I just returned from Walmart where they still have Christmas decor, stocking stuffers, candy and oodles of paper at 75% off. I bought a four pack of wrapping paper (150 sq ft) for only $1.28 plus tax. That's like .32 cents a roll!

I always try to buy wrapping paper and cards (only if I need them) after Christmas and put them aside for next year. It doesn't take up too much space and I am ready to go next year when it's time to wrap those gifts.
