From Couponing to Sweepstakes!

I suppose it's a natural progression, but I have now graduated or rather added Sweepstakes entering to my couponing.  I do both because it's fun, it ads value to my purchases, and there is always the hope that I will win "the big one"!

I am not like the people I saw recently on a tv expose who spend up to 8 hours a day entering contests. Yes, they win a lot of stuff, but I do have a job that keeps me busy. Rather I would say that I do both casually.  I enter contests through face book and I have just started entering whenever I see an offer on one of my store receipts. I just recently learned that when you see contests offered in the newspaper and it says "no purchase necessary" it is fairly simple to enter.  I have not entered any that require mailing in your name on a 4x5 card, just those that have online entries.

I don't have many under my belt yet, but I did just recently win OLAY products from the Olay "Like Mom, Like Daughter" contest. That was a nice surprise. I did not take the grand prize, but lets face it, winning product is awesome, especially if it is something you already use!

The hard contests on facebook are those where the rules say you can only enter once. I have a hard time remembering if I already entered. Then there are the contests that say you can enter every day. To remind me I place a sticky  note on my computer to enter every day.

As long as I am having fun, I will continue to see how lucky I can get!

Target Coupons!

I have finally made a dent in my Christmas shopping. By combining target store coupons with manufacturer's coupons I estimate that I have already saved over $20.00. I never knew that Target had store coupons available online that you can print and then shop with. Just go to their website, click on coupons at the very bottom under "Target Stores". You can then sort by category so that you don't get overwhelmed! They sometimes have over 30 pages of coupons.

By using the special Target Christmas, toy catalog and my manufacturer coupons, I paired them all up at home and then had a focused jaunt through the toy aisle.  I must admit, however, that my last two trips have been more like a scavenger hunt to actually locate the toys.  They don't have much staff on hand, so thank goodness they have a price scanner at aisles to help with pricing!

I still have some more shopping to do. But I do prefer to do it online. So far I have ordered from The Disney Store, Urban Outfitters, Chico's and will soon order online from Macy's. I have yet to pay freight, and I have also used coupons found at RetailMeNot and from store emails. That's the way to do it if you can!

Black Friday

With Holidays around the corner, and every store vying for our hard earned dollars, the push to sell has begun!  Every week there is some new holiday, some new celebration that the stores are using to gain our business.  I started following "Black Friday" a  couple of years ago out of curiosity.  Now there are abundant websites that advertise all of the supposed deals out there, even posting the actual store ads for quick viewing.

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which traditionally signals the start of the Christmas shopping season.  I personally would not care to brave the malls on such a day, or stand or sleep in a line to purchase some beholden item.  I did notice however, that there were some fantastic bargains offered online.  Now that would appeal to me.  I think it would be smarter to have an item in mind that I would like to have, vs getting caught up in buying stuff I don't need just because it was priced well!

This year, if I see something being sold at an unbelievable price, I will set my clock and race to my computer!

Horsing Around

I adore my horses! They are the most lovable and generous of creatures. Considering their size, you wouldn't necessarily think that that was the case.  They are forgiving and patient and can be very funny at times.  It can be costly to keep horses, but that is exactly why I am thrifty in other areas of my life.  I don't get my hair or nails done. I don't drink or smoke. My only therapy is getting out into the fresh air and spending time with these graceful four legged animals. For several hours a week I can escape, destress and forget all else around me!

When it comes time to prepare for winter, it is time to shop for blankets.  I tried two local consignment shops but found nothing.  So this evening I set aside time to do comparison shopping online. I had three windows open, Horseloverz, Stateline Tack and Dover Saddlery.  It can be a very time consuming process, but I built a shopping basket at all three to see which had the better pricing and selection.  HorseLoverz won! Then I went to my favorite website - RetailMeNot, typed in their name and found a code for an additional $6.99 off. Yay!  So within a week I should have the necessary blankets for winter.  It's not that we have such severe cold here in California, but the temperature can drop pretty low in the evenings.  Also, the blankets help keep them a little cleaner if it rains.

There's nothing worse than scraping off mud and manure from their coats!
