Try, try Again - Determined to get in shape!

So once again I am determined to get into shape. How many times has it been now since the New Year began? Definitely too many to remember!

My new motivation is that I am going back east for a wedding in mid-September. I haven't seen my relatives in about 10 years and I really want to be at my best. I will be travelling with my mom and 3 sisters. It will definitely be an adventure!

With this new goal in minds, perhaps it will be a little bit easier to not eat after 8 pm, to say no to those tempting candy and sweets and say yes to some form of daily exercise. Yesterday I did some calisthenics and stretching, today I managed the treadmill for 10 minutes and some stretching and tomorrow? well tomorrow I will actually try to take a Ballet 1 class! That should be embarrassing to say the least. With a month until the trip, if I manage to keep at it, perhaps I will be in good walking shape and in good Wedding dancing shape!

Wish me luck!

Inexpensive Yet Yummy Meal!

I am always on the look out for healthy meals that don't cost too much. Here is another favorite of mine. Spaghetti Squash spaghetti.

Cut your squash in half lengthwise and place face down in a glass pan.  Add about 1/2 inch of water. Bake at 450 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until soft. Remove from oven, cool, then scrape all of the squash innards into a bowl. It flakes out just like spaghetti! Top with pre-made sauce or make your own. Since I just made my mushroom pizzas a couple of days ago, I still had an open jar of sauce in the fridge. Top with grated cheese and tomato slices, mushrooms or any other favorite topper. This time I even experimented with vegetarian ground beef in the sauce.  I love this dish because it is so tasty and filling and it makes a lot. We had leftovers for dinner the next day, and there is still enough for lunch!

This meal allows me to trick my husband into eating a lot of vegetables without him realizing it!  A healthy crime indeed!

Calorie Counting App

To assist me in keeping on track with eating healthy, I came across this great free app for my ipod touch.  It is called "GoMeals".  It allows me to enter all the things I eat during a day and then it tallies calories, carbs, protein and fat.  It has built in food categories or you can custom enter meals that you make.

It is amazing how quickly foods add up.  You start out with 2000 calories and it subtracts what you eat from that total, showing how many calories you have left for the day.  After a week I should have a good selections of the foods I eat the most of, and then building my daily plate will be just that much easier.

Right now, just taking the time to enter the things I eat is enough to make me not want to eat anything more!  It also quickly shows me which category I am overdoing things in!
