I'm Officailly a Twit!

I know, it's crazy, but I decided to establish my own Twitter Account. I figured if you can't beat them, join them! So if you are interested in following me, CLICK here!

I am still learning the ins and outs, the symbols, the abbreviations. If I'm not sure of something such as a hashtag meaning I google it, and it always seems to be there!

So far I have a whopping 27 followers! I am currently following 127, so I am not sure what the return on that is. Apparently I follow a lot more celebrities than us regular folks, and they are less likely to follow back!

I am having fun with it though. I follow my favorite tv show, or singers, and I can instantly know what random, interesting thing they care to say at any time of the day!  As usual for me, it's more about the challenge of learning something new and seeing if I can master it.

I am sure that I can find others like me that like to save money or live life frugally. When I do I am sure that I will be able to share a lot of that information here.

Well, I hope that you are all Twits too!

Save Money on Cooler Ice

No need to buy bags of ice for your cooler when you go on a picnic, to the beach or to a sporting event. Freeze water bottles filled with water and use them in your cooler instead  to keep your food cold. Also, when they melt, they are self contained and won't liquify in your cooler creating a soggy food mess! You also will have extra liquids to drink!

There are lots of ways to save money.

Ways to Save Money

I am reposting this as it is a New Year and I think that these are very helpful suggestions  to  possibly save money. Here are a few simple ideas that can put more money in your pocket.

1. Unplug unused appliances. Go room to room in your house and unplug anything that has a display light that you are not currently using. Also switch off power strips to unused items or totally unplug them.
2. Run your appliances after 6:00 pm or before 10:00 am, or whatever your local utility company has set as "non-peak hours". You can go to their websites to find out this information.
3. Learn how to use your sprinkler timers if you have them, and turn them off if there is rain expected. Just don't forget to turn them back on after the rains!
4. Drive the speed limit. It sounds crazy, but how many of us drive faster than the posted speeds? If possible, drive slower, but only if you don't create a traffic hazard, or make motorist around you mad. Coast whenever possible, especially when you see brake lights ahead, or when you are coming to a red light. Avoid fast acceleration from a stop.
5. Recycle for cash if your community has a program. It's good for the environment and you can get a little money back for your plastic and glass with CRV.
6. Make your own coffee at home instead of stopping at a designer coffee shop. You can even buy a bottle of your own favorite syrup flavor at grocery or bulk stores. Add cinnamon, hot chocolate or other baking flavors that you might already have on hand.
7. Brown bag your lunch to work instead of buying it.
8. Shop at thrift stores such as the Goodwill, Salvation Army, shops that sell for charities such as "Laura's House" (or women's Shelters) or other local venues.
9. Have a "potluck" dinner at your house. You can enjoy a great meal without preparing all the courses, and you might be lucky enough to have wonderful leftovers to eat for another meal!
10. Sign up for loyalty points wherever possible, grocery stores, hotels, airlines, restaurants etc. Even going to vendor websites and registering for email could mean a special free offer or discount coupon.
11. Take advantage of coupons in your local paper or go online to coupon sites and download only items you actually use! I have a list of them in my links section.
12. Use facebook or other social networks and blogs to find out about specials and savings.
13. Look for the lowest prices on gas. If you don't have a Costco membership or don't have cash for an ARCO, go this website or load the GasBuddy app onto your phone.
14. Carpool and split the expense and the wear and tear on your car.
15. Pick up select groceries at Walmart and Target. Their food sections are very competitive, especially on fruits and vegetables.
16. Shop at outdoor Farmer's Markets. Produce may be fresher and less expensive.
17. Eat at least two vegetarian or meatless dishes per week.
18. Turn down your thermostat at night. When you are snug in your bed, you don't need to run the heater as high.
19. Ride your bike or walk to shop if you are lucky enough to live close enough.
20. Take public transportation once in a while.

I hope you find this helpful!

Create an At-Home Spa Retreat

In this harried world in which we live, where time is so precious, every once in a while you need to indulge yourself! Pamper yourself by creating a spa environment at home. You are worth every moment!

Here are some tips to creating a luxurious spa adventure without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. No costs, no hassles.
  • Shut your bedroom or bathroom door. Better yet, if you have young children, ask an older sibling, your husband or a friend to give you a half hour for yourself.
  • Light some of your favorite scented candles while the bath is running.
  • Add some spa fizzle or scented oils to your bath. Mint, eucalyptus, hibiscus and gardenia are especially soothing.
  • Lay out some fluffy towels and a favorite robe by the tub.
  • Play favorite, soothing music to help you relax.
  • Prepare a favorite tea or juice to have on hand to sip during or after your spa experience.
  • Have sliced apples, grapes, strawberries or dried fruits and nuts close at hand to munch on while or after you soak.
  • Before you slip into oblivion, collect your favorite shampoo, soap and body lotions where you can easily reach them.
  • Use a spa pillow to cushion your head if you want to truly relax.
If you don't have some of these things on hand, now you can make a list to give to family and friends for birthday or Christmas gifts ideas! Go on, relax, you're worth it!
