Zooey Deschanel Continues to Charm

Zooey Deschanel continues to charm audiences with her doe-eyed beauty and innocent humor in "New Girl" on the FOX Broadcasting network.

To quote their website - she is "SIMPLY ADORKABLE" but in the best of ways. Even when the rest of the show or characters don't quite hit the target, she hits every mark with her consistency and quirkiness.

You can tell that she is gaining in popularity with the frequency with which you see her on TV doing other things. I have seen her on Jimmy Fallon, Craig Ferguson and others. She sang the National Anthem at game 4 of the 2011 World Series and looked absolutely adorable in her red, white and blue dress as she wowed the crowd with her solid rendition. She is an Indie Pop singer with the band She & Him

Her cotton commercials have also seen a resurgence. She is the perfect model to represent the qualities of cotton and she gets to sing her own jingles. How cool is that?  Perhaps you have seen her ads on TV for the Rimmel makeup line? She is definitely riding the tide of popularity! Good for her!

I hope she continues on with all of her adorkableness. Oh, and did I mention she is on facebook, tweets and writes on the blog Hello Giggles? Where does she find the time? She must have a great team around her!

ZOOEY DESCHANEL

If you can't get enough of Zooey Deschanel and her cuteness, I encourage you to follow her on Twitter @http://twitter.com/ZooeyDeschanel, her blogs on www.hellogiggles.com, her  facebook page or her musical website She and Him where you can follow her music and merchandise. She is so cute on The New Girl on FOX that I find myself watching her quirkiness even if it is a repeat!

For more on her film career, you can read about her on IMDB. And of course, if you haven't seen her wonderful New Year's Eve Uke duet with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, you don't know what you are missing!

She seems to be very popular at the moment, so I get to  enjoy her antics. Who would of thought that a fifty something woman would be a fan? Maybe it's because my daughter reminds me of her, albeit blonde, from time to time? Well, OK, only at certain angles!!

What's in Your Makeup Bag?

On most days I am either too lazy or too tired to put on makeup. Then later in the day if I catch my image I yell at myself (internally that is) and wonder who that tired, bland woman is. Let me clarify, I am not a heavy makeup wearer, but more a try-to-enhance-what-you-have kind of person. I love to go makeup free so I don't beat up my pores, but as I age I find that there are some things that just need a little extra help! Since most days I can't get up early enough to put makeup on at home, I have taken to carrying a small bag with me with some essentials to spruce up with at work.

I'll open my bag and dump out the contents, here's what I have inside:
  • A tube of Garnier Nutrishioniste "Skin Renew" anti-puff eye roller (good stuff, I have the Olay anti-puff tube at home and believe me it feels good and works).
  • A small travel version of ROC Retinol Correction Eye Cream which claims to visibly reduce wrinkles around the eyes, crow's feet, dark circles and puffiness (bring it on!)
  • A travel container of Elizabeth Arden's ultra restorative ceramide capsules (says it helps strengthen skin's barrier against the visible signs of time-YES! When I run out it will be a huge splurge to replace).
  • A tube of generic concealer to mask dark circles and dark spots on my skin. I also use it before my base to tone down redness in small areas.
  • Currently I am using Covergirl's natureluxe liquid foundation. It goes on smoothly and quickly and has an sps of 10  (I like fast, uncomplicated makeup applications). coupon offer
  • An inexpensive, self contained mineral powder with built in powder puff applicator and mirror (quick, easy and non messy for travel).
  • Clinque #110 precious posy blush, (this was a splurge, but I love the color and it is lasting forever!)
  • A cheap  eyebrow pencil for filling in the outer edges of my eyebrows that seem to be balding away, ughhh!
  • Almay's crayon contour eyeliner pencil for lining my eyes (I love this product).
  • A tube of Rimmel Lash Accelerator, both a mascara and lash treatment (I love how it goes on and separates my lashes and gives them length. They seem fuller). And look Zooey Deschanel is a model on their website, I didn't know that! Cute!!
  • A tiny sample tube of Clinque's high impact mascara that I received for free. (still testing, no impression yet)
  • An inexpensive lip lining pencil.
  • And lastly a small bottle of Advil (never without headache relief!), a comb, a tooth flossing pick in a plastic wrapper (what?), a pearl baby barrette and a tiny suction cup (I have no clue).
I can honestly tell you that most of these makeup items were purchased with a coupon at Target. The specialty creams were purchased during specials at Costco (I'm in big trouble when they run out) and I buy generic whenever possible.

Rimmel and L'Oreal makeup coupons. Scan the personal care section. If you can't find them, enter your own zip code!

It doesn't always have to cost a lot to look nice!

Zooey Deschanel's "The New Girl" Pilot gets picked up by FOX TV

Zooey Deschanel Fans will be excited to learn that FOX Television has picked up her sitcom pilot "The New Girl" for their fall lineup. It is set to air on Tuesday nights. According to Deadline, the plot follows Deschanel as, "an unlucky-in-love elementary school teacher who moves away from her former boyfriend and in with three unruly guys." You can also view a Huffington Post article here.

Zooey herself tweeted about the sitcom last night and you can follow her twitter here. For photos, a biography and a full listing of all of her film and television credits, visit IMDB.

I had the pleasure of seeing her live in concert on December 23, 2010 at the Beauty Shop Holiday Concert in Los Angeles. This multi faceted actress sings, plays the ukelele, acts and charms all with her quirky and endearing manner! I can't wait to see her in this new sitcom!

Beauty Shop Holiday Concert!

Last night I saw a wonderful Holiday Concert with my daughter and her friend which set the perfect tone for Christmas. It featured Zooey Deschanel (Elf, 500 Days of Summer), the Chapin sisters (nieces of Harry Chapin) & other guests. The proceeds benefitted the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and WhyHunger.

One of the added bonuses was that Emily Deschanel, one of the stars of the TV show "Bones" sat one row behind us! Since both girls are huge fans, it made for quite an exciting evening!

I was able to get these tickets through an ad on facebook and was delighted to surprise my daughter with an opportunity to see one of her favorite performers. We tried waiting around afterwards to catch an up close glimpse, but her family went in to visit and she did not come out. It was rather exciting exiting through the crowd of paparrazi that had congregated outside the theater gates hoping to snap a celebrity photo. One even took a photo of our group on the hopes that we might be someone famous! Someday maybe!
