By-passing Automated Phone Systems

Who hasn't experienced the frustration of calling a business only to be assisted by a pre-recorded prompt system? I find nothing more frustrating than shouting out account numbers and hoping their computer recognizes them, or trying to punch in number prompts. Over the years I have discovered that you can bypass some systems. You can say this came from the lack of patience or tolerance on my side!

My findings? They don't all work on all systems, so it is hit or miss. Hit "O" for operator and keep hitting it until it switches. Use words like "operator", "help", "service" or "assist" to see if those work.

Now there is also a website called GetHuman.com that lists the exact numbers to press or the words to say in order to reach an operator or customer service representative. It covers about 2200 companies and you can search or scan the lists for the company you are trying to reach. Numbers and inputs are reported by users and verified by the company, and they keep the list as current as possible. There is even a section for users reviews of customer service and response times.

GetHuman is the ultimate consumer tool with phone numbers, shortcuts, reviews, tips, and more for companies worldwide. The next time I need to call about something, I will be sure to use their tips!

Ta Ta for now...
